Chosen by the Sea
I drowned and something happened to me. One minute I thought I was dead and the next, I turned into a mermaid. None of it makes sense. My parents won’t talk about the incident and my mom’s got me popping anti-psychotic pills in the hope of making me forget. I can’t forget. I’ve changed. My parents don’t understand. When I died and became a mermaid, something called to me in the sea and I’m trying every day to ignore that summons. I’ve got enough on my plate. High school sucks big time and since the incident if I touch someone, I can sense their thoughts so I’m wearing my goth attire which keeps everyone away. Everyone except Ash, a teenage heartthrob hallucination who became real and is now enrolled in my school, and who keeps telling me I’m a long-lost siren princess. Right! Strange things start to happen; first my parents get kidnapped, Ash tells me he’s my protector and I’m not sure that’s a good thing and the new Captain of the Hockey team wants to be more than just friends. My life feels out of control. I might not know who or what I am anymore, but I will do anything to free my parents and if that means forcing myself back into the cold Atlantic waters, I vow not to fail them. Between juggling learning high school math, which almost makes me want to kill someone, it’s now a race against time as I learn how to control my newfound powers before an evil Sea Witch destroys my family while seizing control of all the Seas. Then again if my mother’s right and this is a psychotic episode, I’m hoping I’ll wake up with legs instead of a tail.
