This book was an interesting take on the original rapunzel story and while I did enjoy it i must say that the plot was very rushed. The friends to enemies to lovers was rushed as well, Wren hated Rapunzel for a few chapters and then they were fucking. I did enjoy this book, the spice was good but the consent in it isn't very clear so that may be triggering for some. Overall it was pretty okay, the smut made up for most of this which lacked alot of character growth, world building and plot development

This book was the best kind of surprise. The world building was amazing, the plot sucked you in and the characters won me over from the get-go. It was such a neat twist to the original story.

I absolutely adored seeing Rapunzel and Wren’s friendship as children. I could have read a whole book that was based around their little meetups and friendship alone, it was the sweetest. 

But when the mood shifts and things become darker, truths come out that are a little more sinister than first expected the story really takes off. We get to meet Wrens two friends Quinn and Dax who each have their own vastly different back story and different personalities to round each other out. 

Im hopeful for more relationship growth to come between Rapunzel and her guys, and not all our questions were answered but the cliffhanger isn’t too unbearable (thank goodness!!). The next book can’t come soon enough!

Then Twisted is the book for you!

I first want to start by saying I did enjoy this Rapunzel retelling. However, I do have my issue with the story but I'll get into that.

Our story begins with meeting a 12 year old boy named Wren and our other 12 year old, Rapunzel. The story starts with how they met and how they formed a friendship and ultimately a love for each other over the years. We got to see Wren grow up each year until he was grown and begged and pleaded for Rapunzel to come with him and run away. Rapunzel never ran away with Wren and he was sent away to defend the kingdom. Where our story turns is when Wren's father dies and Wren is distraught. Shortly after his father's passing, Wren heard a rumor that the King was looking for a young woman in their area who could heal people but she was hidden. Wren knew it was Rapunzel and ran back to her demanding an answer as to why she ignored him when his father died if she knew all along that she could save him. After Rapunzel refusing an answer, Wren leaves and doesn't visit her again for many years. That is until he learns the King is killing and destroying villages including the one his mother lived in. 

Wren, distraught again, races to find Rapunzel in her tower and demands she leave the tower because she owes him. Once Rapunzel is free, Wren ravages her on the side of her tower with his fingers in some well placed places, telling her that she will be broken by him and destroyed the same way he was when he lost both parents because of her. Ultimately the story continues on in Wren saying how much he hates Rapunzel and refuses to care for her. We also meet two of Wren's closest friends who round out our Reverse Harem triplet. 

Rapunzel ends up being a "willing" captive with Wren and the "outlaws" and is used in many away alone and with each of them together or watching. It does have spice and the spice is not bad for such a short length book. 

This is where my lower rating came from: this story is just another Rapunzel reverse harem retelling with magic and an evil king. My issue was that Rapunzel had never been on her own before, she had never been outside of her tower before, she never met other people or men before. But as soon as she meets Wren's friends (I cannot remember their names to save myself) she is immediately like "okay I'm going to do everything they want and listen to everything they say and let them use my body in anyway" because that's so realistic? I didn't like how it was this story of friends that turned to enemies then all of a sudden she's busy hooking up with Wren's friends in front of him and enjoying it. I personally felt the spice came out of left field. I did enjoy the spice but I feel like how it was written and how the guys were written makes it feel very pushed or forced. What I remember reading is that the guys barely knew Rapunzel and all of a sudden after one BJ they were willing to say "they'll do anything for Rapunzel" and "she is theirs to protect" like I don't really vibe well with that because it seems very unrealistic. Sure, let me get kidnapped by three men, give them my body and mouth and then I will make them so weak with desire that they will protect me at all costs and demand the use of all of me whenever they want. Like come on, that's not how it would happen at all. 

I understand this is a story and I feel after having read and finished the entire book that this was a fun Rapunzel retelling but it was mainly supposed to be a smutty Rapunzel retelling. While I did enjoy the story it was nothing extremely original or anything really worthy of a 5 star rating from me. Again these are my personal views and opinions. I do believe I will read book 2 when it comes out because I am invested in the story and would like to know what happens next but Rapunzel and her men aren't doing it for me. If this was not a reverse harem with more of a believable love interest in the enemies to lovers style I think it would flow a lot better and readers would be able to relate a lot more.

*TWISTED is a reimagining of Rapunzel. Characters are appropriately aged up for this dark romance. This is a scorching RH, friends-to-enemies/enemies-to-lovers with sarcastic, morally gray antiheroes. This book ends on a cliffhanger.
