Audiobook Review:

“You can’t drown when you know how to float.”

In Left Drowning we first meet Blythe and the Shepherd Family. In the first book, I was a bit troubled by the excessive insta-love feel Blythe and Chris’ relationship had. I enjoyed their relationship much more in this book, as their relationship was already established and I got to sit back and enjoy their off-the-charts chemistry and super-sweet affectionate love for each other.

I adored this family dynamic. Between Blythe and her brother and the entire Shepherd Family crew, they had such a strong tie, always there for each other, and so close it was really sweet. With the absence of parents, this group had to fend for themselves 100 percent. It was so nice to see that none of these characters were ever alone. With their brothers, sisters and friends, they were always taken care of. My favorite part of this story was definitely their togetherness and watching them all interact as a group.

I’ve enjoyed Jessica Park’s writing since first reading Flat-Out-Love a few years ago. Since then, I’ve continued to be entertained (and emotionally torn apart!) with her books. She’s an author that I’ve recommended to others as one that never disappoints. I’m looking forward to more from Jessica in the future. I enjoy how she can write a lighthearted feel-good type of story one minute, then a darker, more tortured book the next. Authors with this versatility are high up on my list. If you haven’t checked out Jessica Park’s books yet, I suggest you do!

Audiobook Impressions:
My favorite part of this audiobook was that there was music throughout, performed by the incredible Troy. Hearing the songs played at the appropriate times during the story was a huge bonus. They didn’t just read the words of the songs… they were actually performed beautifully. I loved Troy’s (Sabin’s) voice. Simply gorgeous.

I also felt that Arielle DeLisle did a great job as narrator. Blythe is a confused, emotionally-tormented person, and Arielle was able to bring that all forth with her amazing performance. I liked these characters in Left Drowning… but this audiobook definitely took them to a whole new level for me. My only complaint was Arielle’s performance of Chris and Sabin. The voices she used for these two guys really irked me at first. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to change your voice enough that the reader can always tell who’s talking, so I don’t fault her for this. Overall a very enjoyable listen.
