I thought this book was alright, though it didn't hold a candle to Ascension, in my opinion. I'll give it a solid 3 stars.

I was sad to see it end how it did for Grayson, especially with his really good redemption arc in the last book and into the beginning of this book. 

I was 100% on board with getting more of Aria T'Loak. I thought it was fun to see more of her life style than you see in the game. (I know there's some DLC where you get more of her, but I never got to play it.) It had never occurred to me that she might have children with her on Omega, though it does make logical sense given their matriarchal culture. Aria might be the boss of a crime syndicate, but that doesn't make her any less an Asari mother. She just doesn't seem like the mothering sort to me, so it helped to change my perception of her a little.

Similarly, it was nice to get to see more of Kai Leng in this book, though it answers very few questions about him. Still, it was fun to see just how driven and skilled he was from his perspective.

Kahlee and Anderson hooking up again, like they had in the first book, was an interesting recurrence. I wonder how long it'll last this time. As I recall, they're not together in the third game, though I could be mistaken on that front.

I also liked how Nick had developed between the events of Ascension and now. It was good to see he was maturing and becoming a better person instead of the cocky bully they were worried he was becoming. It sucks he got shot in the stomach because of Kai Leng, but Kai Leng's that sort of neutral that the worry of hurting a child doesn't bother him.
