Revolution 19 is a sci-fi book with an interesting idea. I picked it up because the sequel is coming out and I thougtht I'd jump in on the journey. It turned out to be a pretty average read with both good points and bad points.

It was an interesting thing to see the robots making the humans fear. The humans originally made the bots, didn't they? Can't they just turn them off or something? There's also two different points of view on the whole bots thing. The people living inside the Cities thought the bots were all good and they were all brainwashed into thinking that the people that lived outside were barbarians. This whole journey started when the three siblings set out to find their parents after their homes had been destroyed. They tracked their parents down to a City and they snuck in. With help from various people, they managed to survive. My two favourite characters were probably Kevin and Farryn. They were both tech geeks and I found them facisnating. I really loved the way the obsess over their little pieces of tech until they found a way to improve them or make it work.

One sad thing was that I never got to see bots in action. I wish I could have seen the culprit behind that whole bot-take-over-the-world plan, but sadly he was at the very end of the book. Epilogue or something, if I remember correctly. One thing that made this book so average was that it didn't keep my interest the entire time. Sure there were some exciting parts but there were times when I wished that they'd go faster and just get it over with. I couldn't stand Nick with his self-sacrificial thing either.

Overall, Revolution 19 is a pretty okay start to the series. I think this could've been better if it was a movie instead of book. I've never said that about any book, but I'm sure this one would've succeed better as a movie.

Despite earlier reviews I read about this book, I liked it.

The basic storyline: Bots now control the cities and everyone in it. Citizens are micro-chipped and are trackable at all times. "Freeman's" still exist outside the cities in "Freeposts"...that is until the Bots either capture or kill them.

Cass, Nick, Kevin and their parents are living in one such Freepost until one day the Bots come. The children manage to escape, but their parents are captured. They are taken to the nearest city for re-education where they will learn to live in the bot controlled environment.

Cass and her brothers are determined to rescue their parents from the city which proves to be no easy task with "spherebots" patrolling the streets constantly, ready to call the "Petey's" at any sign of disturbance on suspicious behavior.

They formulate a plan with the help of Lexi, Amanda, Farryn and Doc (who they met upon entering the city) to find their parents and escape the city once more....

I found the plot very simple to follow and it moved along at a nice even pace. The ending left an opening for a sequel, but I wasn't thrilled with it.....The characters were all likable in their own way but wish a little more emphasis was placed on Cass. I felt she was slightly overlooked in the story as a whole.

Overall, I enjoyed the concept of the novel and would look forward to reading a sequel........

I'm not doing a full review on this one so let's get to the heart of it: great premise, poor execution. I barely made it through the first 50 pages, although I did press on to the end. I really wanted more excitement, more character building and honestly? More plot in general. The writing style is very simplistic and makes for a slow read. I was hoping for so much more.
