Night in the Lonesome October

This is one of the most odd books I've ever read.  I enjoyed it, but it was strange...

New for 2025:  This is about the 3rd time I have read this book.  I still love the character sketches and the descriptions of the odd things that happen after midnight.  One thing that did not bother me before, but bothers me now, is the tremendous amount of sex described in detail.  I guess my tastes have changed as I have gotten older, but this book is basically pornographic in places.  However, I think that is a trait in many, if not all, of Laymon's books.  This is the story of college student Ed Logan, who decides to try to take his mind off his broken heart by walking to a donut shop 7 miles from his apartment late at night.  The highlight of the book are the descriptions of the people he meets along the way.
