I picked up this book because I thought it might help with my catastrophic spoken German, it did nothing to my German yet it was really informative.

Both as a language learner and someone who is passionate about language / bilingualism etc. I thought I knew a fair bit about language learning and particularly adult language learning but this book surprised me in the depth and breadth of what it covered that was so specific to adults. I really appreciated the bits on cultural assumptions and social aspects of language learning which is something you seldom come across in writing about language.
Thoroughly recommend this one.
