* A post-apocalyptic book about a man, who's trying to survive in a world full of vampires. A horror, recommended by Stephen King - what can go wrong? Well, as it turns out - a lot. I'll try to not spoil the book for you, though if you read the first few chapters and then the last 70ish pages, you won't miss almost anything. 1. The first half of this book is boring and almost painful to read. I tried to look at that as the author's way of indulging me into the story, but sadly, it didn't work. There was a point where I was reading only to see if something's going to happen. 2. That is not a horror novel. It might've laid the foundation of the genre, but it didn't scare or disgust me at all. The "scary" moments were short and didn't achieve anything. 3. The protagonist was very predictable. His character was well-developed because... well, the attention was primarily on him. His trauma, past, self-doubt and the cherry on top - how much he missed women. Aha, character depth... And let me explain why I gave it such a "high" rating. 1. I admit the author succeeds in setting the atmosphere. I'd not want to live in this world. 2. The study Robert conducts about vampires was interesting. 3. I liked the ending. All in all, this book is nothing special. However, if you're looking for a scary vampire story, this is probably not for you.
