           I am going to talk about spoilers in this review, hence it has been hidden. If you continue reading and feel a need to respond about the fact that the spoilers are here, you have been duly warned, and probably won't get a response.

I had a huge problem with this book. There is a giant plot hole that any competent editor should have caught, and that brought me not only out of this book, but possibly out of the series in its entirety.

Abigail just disappears from the narrative during the prison rescue, and magically reappears in time for Wade to get killed. Yes, I was "listening" to this book. So when I realized I didn't remember them picking up Abigail, I checked out a copy of the book. (Libraries!!) And I read the physical book to its end. Same plot issue. This glaring error made me rethink everything about the book and the series.

I was very excited by the first book. It was innovative, IMO, and enjoyable. The pacing seemed fantastic, and I was quite thrilled to recommend it to friends and teens.

The second books pacing was a little off, but I just chalked it up to typical sophmore titles not reaching the hype of the first book. But now, in the third book, the pacing was horrible. The new characters were unappealing even though they were also not very fleshed out. I get that this is Michael's story, but I would love it if the female characters weren't all reduced to just being a love interest (or lack of love interest) for one of the male characters. McKenna almost says nothing throughout the entire book. She mostly just cries and does what she is told to do.

Ostin - I love the character, but at a certain point, he should have learned to stop shouting when "sneaking" around. Just a thought.

Literally - the only arc in this book that was emotionally sad/satisfying is Jack and Wade. And even then it is one sided. Wade spends all his time left wondering where Jack is and how they are going to rescue him. Then he dies and Jack gets to have a whole new side of himself revealed to everyone. And the fact that we get to see a character actually grieve is rewarding since up til now it's been all go, go, go and get people back and no one died, so it's ok. 

Full disclosure - I also found out (just after finishing the book) that the company that published this series is owned by Glenn Beck - who, I will just say, I am not a fan of. So I am already going into the next two titles with biased thoughts now that I have more information about the author and the publisher. I will do my best to be objective however, because good fiction is good fiction. But this book, was not good fiction.
