A fun and chill read. As someone who has only played 5e, I understood and enjoyed most of the references. In regards to being Rick and Morty (which I have watched all of just for the record), of course it's different writers than the TV show so it has a slightly different feel but still manages to feel faithful and the D&D aspect allows it some extra wiggle room when they're 'in character'.

I like that the writers ultimately had a goal in writing the story; there are many shenanigans and some tangents, but I came away feeling that it was a cohesive narrative with something to tell me (and some very important lessons about what makes d&d actually fun). I never felt like the story was meandering too much and never wasted it's time on cheap jokes. In fact I wouldn't say it was particularly funny overall but that's okay, I don't find Rick and Morty very funny either and I love the show.

The only thing holding me back from a 5 is that it was missing that wow factor for me. Also as an Australian I'm offended that they spelled Cate Blanchett's name wrong (only joking but they did do that and there were a couple other typos, also Beth looked quite off model at times, but honestly the art was really freaking cool, especially all the additional illustrations included)

Highly recommended for fans of Rick and Morty, D&D, or both!
