3.5. akira was such an interesting character in my opinion (fucking backstabber). those japanese guys also really piqued my interest. naomi‘s mom :( senators grandson / monster = monster nao / yuki-onna / tsundere = prey

i absolutely hated this. i usually really like rina kent’s books. the deception trilogy was amazing. but this one? a big miss. there was no story, a very weak plot and overall felt just like porn in the written form. i don’t mind when books are somewhat dark, but this one was purely pointless. sebastian was sort of a psychopath/sociopath (not even sure) and the taboo aspect was just not well executed. the whole book was just sex and the scenes were always the same. i got to a point where i just skimmed through the pages looking for some non-sex scenes hoping there would be some story development and not wanting to read the same sex scene a zillion of times. as if it weren’t enough, i hate the bet trope and what do we have here? the bet trope. i was bored to death the whole time and had to force myself to finish it. will i read the next one? i’m not even sure. i am disappointed at this book. i was almost certain i’d like it. i didn’t, not even close.

the smut? amazing. the book? awful.

I really enjoyed Red Thorns by Rina Kent. It’s dark and gritty and steamy AF! Definitely not for anyone who can’t handle some truly deviant scenes but I ate it up. Naomi and Sebastian both have monsters and when they come out to play together? Gah, it’s seriously hot. Sebastian being the star college quarterback knows how to work the limelight. Always having everyone eating out of the palm of his hand especially since his grandfather is a politician. It’s easy to understand his attraction to Naomi, she’s the first to fight back. He’s crazy possessive, like the boy is seriously unhinged when it comes to her and I LOVED seeing his mask crack. Naomi struggles with a dark, heavy past and it’s slowly eating away at her. Keeping herself at an arms distance from everyone except a chosen few. I have some suspicions of her lineage and how this is going to tie into other elements at play. When she opens up to Sebastian and he shows her the escape they both need her character starts to come to life. This girl has some rough shit ahead for her, I know it. But I think she’ll be strong enough to make it through. CNC is one of my favorite kinks to read about and Rina nailed it, making sure to explain what it truly means and how it should be handled. I’m genuinely excited to see where this story is going to lead. I was flipping pages so fast! It’s a solid intro to these two and their lives, both together and separate. Wherever this plot goes I am so here for it. I need more. Now.

Red Thorns (Thorns Duet #1) by Rina Kent ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “Monster and Prey” Rina Kent won me over with Naomi’s twisted fantasies that she never knew existed until she met Sebastian. Well written dark and intense moments. Sebastian for his reasons has a dark side in him he keeps hidden. Until he meets Naomi and is able to unleash his inner darkness. Love Sebastian and Naomi. So perfect for each other. Has some good suspense dealing with her family past and I have to know who is her pen pal.
