Reign of a King

Rina Kent2020
Nothing is fair in war. Jonathan King is every bit his last name. Powerful. Untouchable. Corrupted. He’s also my dead sister’s husband and way older than me. When I first met him as a clueless child, I thought he was a god. Now, I have to confront that god to protect my business from his ruthless grip. Little did I know that declaring a war on the king will cost me everything. When Jonathan covets something, he doesn’t only win, he conquers. Now, he has his sights on me. He wants to consume not only my body, but also my heart and my soul. I fight, but there’s no escaping the king in his kingdom...

i avoided jonathan way too fucking long because he creeped me the fuck out in aiden and levi's books, MY BIGGEST MISTAKE IT IS.

it seems like rk's duets and trilogies are better written than her series, i'm convinced now that i've finished this book. the writing? tied me down. the plot? intriguing. the teases of riddles? fucking engaging, i'm a curious cat.

i kept thinking, what if rk pulled god of ruin before? as in recycling the plot, and eventually the plot will share the same ending as deception trilogy? but i think it's different this time (hopefully i'm not wrong). because i'm so curious about jonathan's intention towards aurora??? and the truth about alicia? WHETHER SHE'S WICKED OR NOT? what's really going on between alicia, jonathan, and ethan since i liked ethan in other books.. can't manage myself if turns out he's the devil 😭

also i'm curious abou aurora's family tree??? and maxim too, why is he sooo determined to haunt aurora??? WHAT HAPPENED IN AURORA'S PAST.. why is she haunted by traumas that keeps her looking behind her back.. and why the fuck maxim's victims family are holding hostility towards aurora??? she put him in prison and gave the victims justice after all????

Enganchada con la pluma de Kent. Está historia en particular me tiene enganchada, teniendo en cuenta que Jonathan es un hueso duro de roer, es interesante verlo caer por Aurora.

Reign of a King is the first in the "Kingdom Duet" and I have been wanting to return to this author but I will say that I wasn't too impressed with the books I have read by this author in the past so I took some time before reading more from this author. But lately on Instagram I have seen so many rave about this book duo, so I decided to try this author again and I was completely hooked into this book. And this is most definitely my type of story, in fact, the vibe of this story reminded me a bit of Meghan March in some ways. I was really hooked into the set up of the romance which features a badass alpha male pretty much blackmailing the heroine into sharing his bed haha I know this setup won't work for everyone. But as a fan of dark romance, this type of theme really worked for me. I also really liked some of the more taboo themes, the hero is the heroine's husband of her sister who has been killed. So there is a lot of mystery, level of "forbidden" and lots of sexy hot vibes that this author is really good about. I was pretty fascinated to see where the author took this story and it definitely has some solid steam in this one with the BDSM aspects. There is also a strong hint of psychological thriller themes that I am finding very interesting to the theme. It ended with a cliffhanger but I had book 2 ready to go. Definitely a strong story and it pulled me in so quickly and I couldn't put it down at all and I was completely feeling the depths of the romance and eager to see where the author takes the finale.

If you thought the boys were bad, wait until you’ve experienced Daddy King. Ruthless. Straight up RUTHLESS. And I loved every dirty, demanding second of it. Jonathan may reign but I have a feeling Aurora isn’t too far from knocking him off his platinum pedestal. Aurora, a tortured soul running from her past gives into the one possible way to save her life long passion in the company she’s established. It’s not just work to her, it’s a soul deep connection to the one good thing in her childhood that she can’t afford to loose. She’s an incredibly strong heroine and I can’t help but develop an immediate girl crush on her! Aurora may be young but her life has made her wise beyond her years, leaving her with a cunningly attractive personality. Jonathan King... finally we get a solid peek behind the mask and it was not what I expected. Yes, he’s brutal and kinky and mean and infuriatingly sexy but he has so much more going on in that head of his than just war games. Rina has delivered a character worthy of his name. I’m really looking forward to where his growth will go, I know I won’t be able to predict him but I know he’ll have reasons for his actions. True to Rina’s style there’s a killer cliff hanger leading us into the next book. Reign of a King will leave you yearning for more of Jonathan and Aurora’s uniquely seductive games.

Reign of a King follows Aurora who is trying to save her company from bankruptcy by negotiating a deal with Ethan Steele but to do that she has to meet him at Aiden's wedding while also avoiding both Aiden and Jonathan who happen to be her dead sister's son and husband. Unfortunately, she does run into them and it opens up a whole can of worms as she has been 'in hiding' for about eleven years. What intrigued me about this book was the subplot going on in Aurora's personal life, the reason she has been hiding for years and I wished it was fleshed out more in this book but I am guessing it will be in the sequel. Overall a good book and I am looking forward to the conclusion.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read a compelling dark romance and this one really sucked me once I got passed the first chapter. On the darkness spectrum this is on the lighter side but still has an engaging plot as there are mysteries to be solved, not only to the reader but also to our main character. Also, pretty spicy with mild-ish BDSM influences. Be advised this IS a duet but I am so ready for book 2 and dare I say I wish there was a book 3.
