Vow of Deception

Vow of Deception

Rina Kent2021
My husband. My Tormentor. The most notorious man in the city offers me a job. Act as his dead wife. Adrian Volkov isn’t the type of person who takes no for an answer. He commands with an iron fist and all his orders are met. When he approaches me with the offer, I have two options. Go to prison or put myself under his wrath. I choose to have a roof over my head. What’s so hard about acting, right? Wrong.

4.5 STARS "In Adrian’s arms, I’m free of everything and everyone. I’m just me." Let's start with the fact that I'm glad Rina Kent released the limited edition covers because the originals were ugly. The plot in this book? Rina, you have outdone yourself. It's addicting. I can't wait to read the next two books in this trilogy. I love that we can see characters from other Rina Kent books, although I haven't read Rai and Kyle books yet. It’s cute that there will be book about Adrian and Lia son Jeremy in her new series Legacy of Gods. Spoiler: I'm a bit scared, because if Adrian Volkov turns out to be obsessed with his wife's clone, I'll change this rating. Because cheating on your wife and pretending to be a family with her goddamn clone is kinda sick. I really hope that Winter turns out to be his real wife, but at the same time who is the women in the guest house?¿ I can't wait to read and find out what's happening in this series in the next two books!

★★☆☆☆ (2) “I wish I’d never met you.” My lips brush against her forehead. “I’ll meet you over and over again if I have to.” if i knew how to drive and had my driver's license and a brand new car, i would run over adrian volkov twice.

oh my gosh i literally feel mindfucked- the plot was so interesting, i literally couldn't stop reading. probably since 35% of the book i had a theory, and it was right BUT THE CLIFFHANGER- what was that rina i was not expecting that. i literally have to go read the next now. winter aka lia, what a character, so interesting; oh and adrian volkov, i don't know if i should be petrified or if i find him hot. - "I have an offer for you, Winter." "What offer?" "Be my wife." - "Winter is no longer Winter. She's Lia. She took my wife's life, and her punishment is spending the rest of her existence being Lia's replace-ment. I'll bring my Lia out of this woman, even if it's the last thing I do." - "She couldn't have left the property, because Ogla or my guards would've informed me of the fact. I know that, but the possibility is tugging on the vacant place in my chest. She's here. I know she is. I can feel her presence in the walls of the house, can see it without having to try hard." - "Adrian's never kissed me before, and yet, it feels like we've been kissing since we met. Like kissing has been the highlight of both of our existences. He's so into it, like he's attempting to lure something out of me by using my mouth. His vigor triggers mine and I can't help the need to kiss him back, to try and give as much as he does. I'm so in tune with him that my body feels like it's fusing with his." - ""Can I have Mommy?" "You already do." "Not now. At night. I want Mommy to sleep with me, but she said I have to ask you for it." "She did, huh?" "Uh-huh," "So, can I have her?" "You already have her during the day, so no." "Please, Papa." "Do you want me to be all alone, Malysh?" "No." "Then you have to give me your mother during the night." "Do you need Mommy too, Papa?" "I do." - "I wish I'd never met vou." "I'll meet you over and over again if I have to." - "You're fucking home." - "Never had addictions or things I couldn't easily get rid of. Lia is the exception to all of those. She's the addiction I didn't see coming, and when I finally noticed her, she was already streaming in my blood. She's the one whose boundaries were supposed to be pushed, but I ended up being the one in a clusterfuck of problems. This woman is intoxicating. She crept under my skin and injected her black magic into my bones. Now, she's the reason I breathe. I feel like if I stop touching her, if I let her go, she'll disappear again." - "What do I smell like?" "Like roses and fucking addictions." "How do you know what addictions smell like?" "I didn't. Until you." - “And I do remember. It’s true. My name is Lia. Lia Volkov.”

First Impressions
Vow of Deception is the first book in the "Deception Trilogy" and I really went into this book blind and the blurb is a bit vague into what is actually happening with this book. This book was really hard to get engaged with so my best piece of advice with this one is be patient with it and stick with it and if by halfway you aren't into it, then it might not be for you. Sometimes Rina Kent's books aren't going to be for everyone and I really had to be patient with how this one was written here. I really found it so intriguing and the way in which this author developed this book was so well developed. At first, I didn't know what she was really going on with this story, but it turned into something so much more deeper than even I expected but the hero is one of the darkest heroes I think she has written.

First Line
Death can come in the form of a doppelganger.

The Main Protagonists
The Hero: Adrian Volkov
Works for the Bratva, Assassin, Works Remotely, Is a single father

The Heroine: Lia (Winter)
Started out as a professional ballerina, lost her way when she had a miscarriage and ended up on the streets and an alcoholic.

Summary
Lia is taken from her home of the streets and being homeless and forced into the home of Adrian Volkov where she is forced to pose as his wife and the mother to their son who is just a lost child yearning for his mother. Lia is at a loss because she is in a difficult position, Adrian is not a man to disobey but Winter finds her own way to disobery him to stand her ground and retain her independence but she also knows how dangerous Adrian is and there is a bond that she is forming with Adrian that she doesn't want to fully admit to. But there are secrets, she is having nightmares and she ends up learning secrets, secrets that could destroy them all...

What I Loved
Vow of Deception had some aspects to the story that just intrigued me. First off, the chemistry in this book is off the charts. The way in which these two connect in the smexy moments between them is very intense. I was intrigued by the premise of the story and you could tell pretty quickly that the author was really digging deep to write such a complex story that had so many layers to it. Just when you think ( as the reader) that you have it all figured out, then something new enters into the story that completely blows you away. I was shocked in where the author led this book because I was NOT expecting that ending, because that reveal in the ending, oh boy. The author really throws you for a loop into this one. I absolutely love what she wrote here, I wasn't sure I wanted to continue this series until the later half of the book. The first half of the book is very slow going and doesn't make sense but I do think if you are patient, it will give you the rewards you can expect from this author and I can't wait to jump into the next book. This is definitely a trilogy you want to read together.

What I Struggled With
The first half of the book is really hard to keep up with. There were many times I wanted to DNF this one, but I wanted to give this trilogy a good chance as I really wanted to read Adrian's book and have been curious about his character as there has always been so mystery surrounding him. But the pacing was really off and it could have been me, it just starts off really strange and can be hard with at times. I really was intrigued by the characters but it just didn't make sense in the first half, but I promise if you keep up with, then it will bring out rewards.

Overall View
Vow of Deception was a captivating, angst filled romance that kept me on the edge of my seat...all the intrigue and dark vibes will carry you through and keep the reader fascinated to read the next one.

I do remember. It’s true. My name is Lia. Lia Volkov. CHEERRSSSSSS I FUCKING SCREAMED HERE I knew this plot twist was coming at the end of the book cz ain't no way he's obsessed with her just because she looks the same as his dead wife but still RK fooled me.. whenever I was sure it's her, something happens and I'm not certain anymore. I was literally so happy when it turned out its true. I was like "THANK GOD!!👹" 😭

I loved reading this book. I was in a slump after finishing another series and this book brought me back into reading dark romance. Loving the series so far, so excited to unfold this mystery. So *spicy* and *tasty*. Adrian is dark and moody. The ending had me instantly downloading the next one!

I had figured out the big reveal, but at the same time, what was that ending?! I need more answers!

highly entertaining, especially when Adrien isn’t a good guy. I’m loving Rina Kent’s men. They’re not Prince Charming, they’re not the good guys; they all dabble in dub-con/non-con, and I’m here for it.

So I've had an interest in Russian Bratva stories ever since watching Arrow, but have never delved into any books about it, stuck mainly to my AU fanfics. But this one got recommended and I thought "WHY NOT?". And I was pleased. I definitely dig the female main character's personality, and the Bratva male is exactly what I wanted and expected, maybe even better. What I didn't expected was the mystery element ... here for it and it's keeping me going through the trilogy.
