Cormac O'Connell is loyal, caring and protective when it comes to those he considers part of his inner circle of friends and family. So when the trial comes for Emily's stepfather, he worries that things will go wrong. His morality comes into question when he wants to protect the one he loves the most.

Emily McCarthy, despite the events she has gone through in her childhood, is strong but even it takes a toll on her when she comes face to face with the man who just won't leave her alone.

Cormac and Emily's relationship only becomes stronger as they are put through a series of events. Some secondary characters, namely Emily's stepfather and mother are the most hateful characters.

The first book was taken from the point of view of Emily, while in this one, it is through Cormac's point of view. Now we get more insight into what he is thinking and feeling.

This is the second novel to the Hurricane series and is best read after the first book entitled The Hurricane. The reason for this being that the characters' backgrounds and the events that occurred are fully described in that book. While you do get a brief summary, those who hate missing out information will be losing out. It was a good book with a bit of intrigue. A range of emotions came to be felt while reading it.
