The Dragon Reborn (The Wheel of Time, Book 3)

I loved this more than the Great Hunt. This has a tighter plot and less unnecessary filler. I enjoyed Mat's character development. Our Wonder Girls remain awesome. More shadows pawn introduced. Listened to the Rosmund Pike audiobook. She does a fantastic job bringing this story to life. Can't wait to continue the rest of the series.

Im going to use the same review for the first 3 Wheel of Time books. Partly because they all follow a similar plot line. They are simply extensions of themselves. Mainly though, because It’s been a little while since reading them and I’ve forgotten much of the way I felt upon closing out each chapter. 

What I can say, is that I largely wanted to get through them. It often felt like I was reading to achieve a goal, rather than enjoy the story itself. Something I really try to not do, and something that I usually look back on as a sign of a book I did not love. 

That brief criticism aside, I did very much enjoy these books. I wouldn’t dare critique the fantastical genius if someone so well regarded as the late Robert Jordan. But Robert, I’m hoping for a little more here my brother. I was staging to tap out after 3, but a close friend (and respected fantasy enthusiast) hinted that the turn i’ve been seeking is waiting for me with the Shadow Rising. Do i believe it?? Well,  a girl can dream. Will I make it to the fabled final 3 books penned by the demigod Sanderson? Will the peloton-esque middle 7 books be enough to carry me through?? Who am I to say? The Wheel of Time Turns, and Ages come to Pass. I’ll see you back in the third age kid.

Bu seriyi okumak benim için büyük bir keyif. Robert Jordan fantastik dünyalar inşa etme konusunda usta bir yazar. Kitapları okurken zamanın nasıl geçtiğini anlamıyorum. Karakterler gerçekçi, herkes yaşına, sosyo-kültürel seviyesine ve hormon :D durumlarına göre tepkiler veriyor. Bu durum bazen karakterlere uyuz olmanıza sebep oluyor ancak okumalar sonrasında bir tahlil yaptığınızda karaktere uygun olduğunu anlıyorsunuz. Karakterlerin bağlı kaldığı bir çizgisi var, ve olaylarla bu çizgi sadece eğriliyor, tepkileri tutarlı. Yani 7 sezon iyilik ve dürüstlük timsali olmuş bir karakteri 8. sezonda ruh hastası faşist bir diktatöre çevirmiyor (Ah GoT ah). 

Zaman Çarkı'nı herkese tavsiye eder misin? diye sorsanız, herkese tavsiye etmem. Ciddi bir zaman ve irade gerekiyor bitirmek için. Toplamda 12000 sayfalık bir seri bu.

Peki madem bu kadar seviyorsun, neden 4 yıldız verdin? diye soranlar olabilir. Zaman Çarkı 14 (başlangıç kitabını da sayarsanız 15) kitaplık bir epik fantezi serisi. İlk kitap Yüzüklerin Efendisi hikayesinin Jordan tarafından yeniden yazılışı diyebiliriz. Bir grup karakterimiz var ve bunlar bir sebepten dolayı kendi yollarına gidiyorlar. Kitabın sonunda hepsinin yolu bir şekilde kesişiyor ve ikinci kitapta yine bir sebepten dolayı dağılıyorlar ve sonunda yeniden bir araya geliyorlar. Üçüncü kitapta da aynı formül kullanılmış. Her ne kadar bu karakterler kendi yollarında hikayeyi ilerleten, dünyayı tanıtan ve genişleten olaylar yaşasalar da, bir noktada bu tekrar 1 puan kırmama sebep oldu.

Dördüncü kitapta seri bu kalıptan kurtulup kendi tarzını oluşturuyormuş, bu yüzden çok merak ediyorum devamını.

Biraz isim ve olayları yazarak kitapta neyi çok sevdiğimi anlatayım:

- Mat'in karakteri bu kitapta oturmaya başlıyor, Mat kısımları kitabın en güzel ve keyifli kısmıydı.
- Rand'in karakter gelişimi ise kusursuza yakın. Bütün dünyanın yükü 20 yaşına gelmemiş bir gencin üzerinde, ve bununla başa çıkamıyor (doğal olarak). Rand'ı çok iyi anlıyorum. Ve Rand'in bu kitaptaki yolculuğunu Perrin'in gözünden okuyoruz. 4-5 sayfa dışında Rand'ın yolculuğunu görmüyoruz ama bütün kitap onun yolculuğu üzerine. Müthiş.
- Egwene, Elayne, Nynaeve'in kule maceraları da çok güzeldi. Büyü okulu olduğundan mini bir Harry Potter hikayesi okur gibiydim oralarda.
- Rüyalar Alemi ve be alemin dünya ile kesişimi çok iyi işlenmiş. 
- Aiel'leri bu dünyada tanıyoruz. Bana aşırı derecede Dune'daki fremenleri hatırlatıyor. Ama eminim ki ilerleyen kitaplarda çok farklılaşacaklar.
- Perrin'in bazı kısımları çok az da olsa sıktı açıkçası, ama onun da karakter gelişimi müthiş. Artık kitabın Wolfbrother konusunu daha derin işlemesi gerekiyor. Bir insan nasıl Wolfbrother olur, neden kurtların böyle bir olayı var, bunu Perrin ile beraber öğreneceğiz belli ki.
- Min'i hiç görmedik. 4. kitapta Min'e yer ayrılmıştır diye düşünüyorum.
- Thom da mümkünse her kitapta olsun. 
- Daha bir sürü başka konsept vardı, bu kadar fantastik öğenin olduğu bir dünyada 14(15) kitaplık seri yazmak büyük ustalık ister. Daha da ekleniyor her kitapta.
- Moiraine'in balefire kullandığını gördük, işler ciddiye binince verdiği tepkilerin nasıl değiştiği de görüldü. Çok seviyorum Moiraine ve Lan'ın kısımlarını. Politika ve büyücülük birleşince çok güzel oluyormuş.

I probably like this book the most out of the first three! A lot of time is given to flesh out characters besides Rand and the story is all the better for it! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
