Water flows in and through us. Running, we are rivers. Seated, we are pools. Our brains and hearts are three-quarters water, our skin is two-thirds water; even our bones are watery. We were swimmers before we were walkers, slow-turning like breath-divers in the dark flotation tank of the womb. 

It is peaceful to be in that cloud of unknowing. I feel ignorant in the forest, and at ease with my ignorance. 

Cold air. We are cloud-makers with each exhalation.

If fungi were to speak… they would tell us what they show us, which is that really the death of an organism is the beginning of countless others; that there is no end to life, just a constantly shifting substrate.

I love Robert Macfarlane's writing, I just find something very moving about it. It is clear he deeply cares about the subject matter and I think that's where this quality of his writing helps in particular - it helps to incite love and care as equal within readers.
