After reading Jasper Fforde's The Big Over Easy, I must say this was a bit of a disappointment. Although the plot for both books is quite similar, I didn't enjoy Rankin's writing, characters & story development as much as I did Fforde's. Since this is the first Robert Rankin book I read I think I'll have to try another one to figure out whether I like his writing style. I do love the names he chooses for his books, so it's going to be hard to figure out which one to read next;)
