The Mysterious Affair of Judith Potts

It's usually Judith, Becks and Suzie doing the solving but this time around the enigmatic Judith is in the frame for the murder of her husband decades ago!  A visit from the step-daughter she's never really known leaves Judith spinning. And before she can right herself, the MMC is actually ASKED to involve themselves in the murder of a local celebrity.

Their usual police partner has been side-lined and the new guy...well he's not a fan of amateurs at all and he has a real bee in his bonnet about these three!

% books into the series and you think you know all there is to know about the characters. Not our Judith though, she still has some secrets left to uncover and boy, does she rattle us around Europe as she goes lone wolf to solve the mystery of why she is in the frame for her husband's murder, leaving Becks and Suzie to deal with the new murder at home. Judith really allows the others to step into leader mode and take charge, they always usually default to her and her amazing brain but they have talents of their own to exploit.

I love the way you can tell reality to sod off in a cosy crime novel.  Just disconnect all the wiring in your brain and stick yourself in the story.  I have a hard time with "proper" crime fiction as it's too much like the day job but with some plucky amateur sleuths I can unplug the sensible part of the brain and just go with the flow.

As usual I struggled to unfurl any of the hints and clues that Judith left with the girls, I was totally adrift.  One again it was a delight to be amongst older, female main characters who went against the usual stereotypes of busybody old ladies!
