Historical Fire Regime for Pothole Creek Interior Douglas-fir Research Site
This report examines evidence of forest fire history at the Pothole Creek Research Site near Merritt, British Columbia, as a part of a larger project investigating stand development, growth, and yield. A master chronology, constructed using samples taken from climatically sensitive trees, was used to cross-date samples collected from fire-scarred wood. The resulting pattern of past fire intervals was then employed to speculate about the historical fire regime at Pothole Creek. Results are discussed with regard to seasonality of fire, extent of fire, and fire frequency and intensity.
