oh jolly. it was really FUN. middle grade books should be more into murders! kids and murders? kids solving murders? FUN!

best part of the book is it feels real, the characters. it's not like some twelve years old acting all smart and ended up sounding very ridiculous—not like kids at all.

it was easy to follow and fun to read.

I LOVED THIS SO MUCH!!!

There is so much I loved about this book:
- It is set in 1934
- It is set in an all-girls English boarding school
- The detectives are two young girls, one is English and one is from Hong Kong
- Hazel is so adorable
- Daisy really grows on you
- THERE IS A MURDER!!!
- There is a final description of the murder + reveal of the culprit in front of all the suspects (I love this in books by Agatha Christie and I loved finding it here as well)

It was just fabulous. I loved all the English terms that are used throughout, and yeah just how very English the whole thing was.
The murder was so compelling, I devoured the book because I was so curious to find out the culprit. While this is a middle-grade book, the language and the situations were simple, but really not too simplified, and the mystery was complex regardless.

I had an intuition on the culprit, not because of clues being sprinkled in badly, but simply because I had a "feeling" ahaha I was still very shocked to find how who did it and the reason why! Wow it was great, and you can bet I will pick up the next book soon.

This is the Middle Grade Monthly pick for June. I'm not a mystery fan, but thought I'd give it a shot. 
I shouldn't have. I didn't like this one. I was bored. The writing is probably good, it just wasn't for me.

If you like mystery, give it a go. I personally need some kind of fantastical elements to keep me interested.

When Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong set up their very own secret detective agency at Deepdean School for Girls, they struggle to find any truly exciting mysteries to investigate. (Unless you count the case of Lavinia’s missing tie. Which they don’t.) Then Hazel discovers the Science Mistress, Miss Bell, lying dead in the Gym. She assumes it was a terrible accident – but when she and Daisy return five minutes later, the body has disappeared. Now Hazel and Daisy not only have a murder to solve: they have to prove one happened in the first place. Determined to get to the bottom of the crime before the killer strikes again (and before the police can get there first, naturally), Hazel and Daisy must hunt for evidence, spy on their suspects and use all the cunning and intuition they can muster. But will they succeed? And can their friendship stand the test?

Very well writen book. It is easy to read and feels interactive as I was trying to figure out the mystery with the characters!

I've been thoroughly amused and immensed in this book - it's literally Malory Towers with murderers, and fuck, that's an ingenious idea and I'm happy to say that the execution is amazing as well. Plus, it's set in 1934 (v cool), has a protagonist of colour (hurrah diversity) and very quickly makes reference to a lesbian couple (inclusivity!!) - all in all, a hilarious, mysterious read. Catch me reading Arsenic for Tea on the tube the next week.
