This book is valuable for the insights it gives the reader into the work Doolittle and the Star have done in Rob Ford since he became mayor but ultimately it feels like this is only half the story. Obviously, and especially because the publishing date was bumped up, she and the publishers are striking while Ford is still big news. The boom does read a bit like it was written in three months and rushed to press, but I appreciate having a better idea of what things were like behind the scenes; people who vilified the Star for its Ford reporting may be interested to know about some of the angles that were held back or killed or delayed and for what reasons. Still, the inevitable follow up May be even more interesting: Ford in the campaign trail promises to be the most intriguing political story Canada has seen in a long time.
