I loved Colin before this book. This book droned on in comparison to the others. There wasn’t much to the romance between Penelope and Colin other than his childish anger at her success as Lady Whistledown. I skimmed through a lot of it looking for little nuggets of interesting story info. This installment really felt like an afterthought. I was so excited for Penelope and the idea that she was finally with Colin after years of secret love for him. But now I feel bad for her.

Engeland, 19e eeuw.

Inspiration for the Netflix Original Series Bridgerton: Penelope and Colin's Story

Romancing Mr Bridgerton

It was a little repetitive the plot between Lady Whistledown and Colin complaining and being furious with Penelope -which I understand- but it’s the main thing that he does in the whole book since he founds out and I was hoping to something more about him :(

It’s easy and fast to read and I really liked the relationship between Colin and Penelope, I liked that it’s not insta love and to see the evolution in him

I loveeeeeeed the part where everyone finds out who Lady Whistledown is and Colin’s speech 💕

A New York Times Bestseller From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn comes the story of Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington, in the fourth of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring the charming, powerful Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix. COLIN AND PENELOPE’S STORY Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for . . . well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn’t know him at all. Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought of as nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him. But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same—especially Penelope Featherington! The girl who was always simply there is suddenly the girl haunting his dreams. When he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat— or his promise of a happy ending?

I thought there would be more drama to Colin and Penelope's story, but overall I quite liked it, even if it moved quickly.

On the sixth of April, in the year 1812 - precisely two days before her sixteenth birthday - Penelope Featherington fell in love. But Colin Bridgerton certainly didn't fall in love with her in 1812 (and not in 1813, 1814, 1815, or - oh blast, not in all the years 1816-1822, either, and certainly not in 1823, when he was out of the country the whole time, anyway..' Omg the writing is fucking horrible, but I still find this so fun. Shame on me.

This is just like eating fast food - cheesy, sloppy, greasy, but somehow just so darn delicious. I've not read any of the other Bridgerton books, and frankly I don't care for them, but Polin?! Oh I love them so freaking much. They're the only characters in the show that I like (Nicola Coughlan, I will fight to the death for you), and I love them even more in the books. Their dynamic is sweet, charming, and sincere. I love that they have history that is awkward and complicated, but it makes both of their feelings feel genuine instead of instalove or just pure sexual attraction.

There are things I don't like, though.
1. Why is Penelope suddenly not fat? I don't like that!
2. I don't like that book!Colin didn't even know the colour of Penelope's eyes in the TWELVE years he's known her. I don't understand the choice here, because they're supposed to have been good friends, missed opportunity to have Colin be in love with Penelope but unaware of his feelings like he's unaware of his talent. This is what show!Colin does better than book!Colin.
3. Only ONE sex scene?! Are you serious?!

Otherwise, I really liked it, it was a very fun, cheesy, romantic romp. The proposal scene is one of my all-time favourite pieces of comedy. Quinn's writing really comes across as kinetic here - the best in the book, really. Excited to see it adapted on screen, hoping Polin isn't rendered absolutely boring like the previous couples.

Might be my least favorite of the 4 I've read, but I couldn't stop laughing the entire time. I like Penelope, can't stand Collin

I wanted to read this before the show came out
