I recently studied the life of Dorothy Day, read a novel by Michael D. O'Brien and am about to take a course on theological ethics from a Jesuit seminary, so I was interested to learn more about Roman Catholicism. Throughout the book both authors maintained that the RCC is either what it claims to be or it is diabolical. Having finished the book I am not convinced of either statement. Clearly the Hahns love Jesus and are genuine Christians, but yet I remained unconvinced (and fairly uncomfortable at points) regarding the RCC beliefs about the saints, Mary, contraception, the Pope, patriarchy, and especially transubstantiation of the eucharist. This being said, the story was mostly well told and helpful to understand some RCC doctrine from the horse's mouth.
