Oh man, how I love this book.

The main characters' lack of communication in the middle of the book is ANNOYING AS HECK, but aside from that, this is a slice of perfection. 

(Also, guess who's going to check out yet another Roseanna M. White book from the library?? Toooootally not me haha)

Roseanna M. White, you've done it again.

This book was phenomenal, in so many ways. The characters. The rich, detailed setting. The dialogue. The plot. THE WRITING.

Ms. White is a genius, and I dare anyone to say different. 

I will perhaps do a detailed review at some point, but for now, my sick-brain isn't allowing me to be as in-depth as I would like. :P My only qualms with the book were all the mentions of mistresses, sleeping around, etc. While not portrayed in a positive light, it was kiiiiind of commonplace for there to be a lot of scandal in all the noble families. 'Hem. 

Additionally, though I adored Brook and Justin, they had some SERIOUS communication issues and I wanted to whack them upside the head sometimes. Just . . . please talk about things instead of flying off the handle, my dears.

All that is to say - this book was a masterpiece, and I couldn't be more excited to read the sequel. It was a torture to have to wait three months to finish this book. xD

The dialogue was darling, the characters lovable, the prose quotable, and the setting described so you could picture it. Yes, the characters could have communicated better but that would have decreased the romantic tension so I don't wish it away. I personally don't love feeling tense while reading books that have an obvious villain, but nonetheless, this was a five star for me.

The Lost Heiress is the first book in the Ladies of the Manor series by Roseanna M. White. It is a Historical and Christian Fiction with a side of Romance and Mystery. The story revolves around Brooke, who is searching for her place in this world, after finding out that the mother she has known all her life is not her real mother. With the help of her childhood friend Justin, Lord Harlow, Brooke finds her father and his family, who welcome her with open arms, though the servants are a whole different story. Meanwhile, Justin is trying to put his life back on track after a series of unfortunate events happen, and his life is turned upside down. They must come together to protect Brooke from the danger she found herself in. 


  Setting and Writing:

The story takes place mostly in England, except for the first chapters, which follow our heroine in Monaco. 
What surprised me while reading this book was how much I enjoyed the writing, seeing as this was the first Christian Fiction, that I have ever read. 
 We have more than one POV, which helps us know things that the female lead doesn't, and that for the most part is a little frustrating, but in the best way.


  Plot and Themes:

It is an interesting plot that manages to surprise the reader. Here you will find adventure, hidden clues, and ancient curses that pull you into the story and are hard to let go of. There is a part in the end that I didn't like as much simply because it was too unbelievable, comparing it to the overall events in this book. 


  Characters and Relationships: 

The characters are incredible, and you watch them grow and discover themselves through this book. You have the main female lead, Brooke, that is at first a girl searching for her real family, a little spoiled and childish at times. As the story goes on, you get to watch her handle bullying from the staff members and dangerous situations, and still keep her compassion for others no matter how much they have wronged her. 
Then there is Justin, who suffers losses that no one should experience in such a short time, there are times when he may look foolish, but once you start seeing things from his perspective, you will understand his motives. 
Diedre is Brooke's maid, and as horrible and petty she may seem at times, you will come to care for her and be disgusted at the things she has to endure. The characters are such a big part of the plot in this book, seeing them evolve and get their happy ending is a joy.

This was such a beautiful book overall. With incredible character development, a fast-paced novel that didn't let the characters fade into the background to make room for the plot or the other way around. I used to avoid Christian Fiction because I always thought it was not for me but this book has opened my eyes to a new genre. Here's to hoping that all the other books I will read are as good as this one.
