Remnants of Filth: Yuwu (Novel) Vol. 2

i really struggled to get through this second volume. it felt uncommonly slow and boring, but that's probably because i still feel very little attachment to both protagonists. to be fair, i'd consider dropping this novel if it weren't for the fact that i've already bought the two following volumes... i kinda regret not reading this before it got licensed lol

meatbun's writing often oscillates between the childish and the poetic (a common trait among webnovels) but in addition to that, i found the structure of her storytelling in this specific volume to be also rather jarring, with her continuously diving into past events, seemingly with no purpose other than add to the angst. this would be still understandable in the protagonists' case, but when she randomly began to narrate li qingqian's backstory, it truly felt like some random info dump in the attempt to give the villain more depth.

hopefully the pace will pick up in the next volumes and we'll see more of jiang yexue, whose character ended up intriguing me more than i had anticipated.

Massive improvement from the first volume. It really feels like the plot has finally kicked off and the emotional beats hit one after another like waves in the ocean. Let the suffering begin!🔥

Autumn 

Wonderfully woven, everything I loved about vol. 1 continues on in this volume. The developments in this were nice, and I’m excited to see what else comes to light in the next volume. I think the main issue with this series for me will be how long winded and repetitive it is with some things.
