Rubinrot Liebe geht durch alle Zeiten

Kerstin Gier2009

It's been a while since I read this, but when I did, I read through the whole triology within 2 days. I loved it, it was one of my favourite books and I was addicted to it, it was even what got me into fanfics. I would definitely read it again.

normally I don't really read any german books, as I find it hard to get into german writing styles. But I have to say, that this was quite gripping. I flew through this, which is quite unusual for me. Finally I found a german series, which I like and actually read in german :)

Its an easy read novel. The plot is simple but good. And since I was re-reading it, I remembered how funny it is. But I need to say, I hate how fast Gideon changes in the first book (in the matter of Gwendolyn) But I still like him

Disclaimer: I read this book in German which is not my mother tongue. I did take it for five years in school but 4.5 years have passed since then so I've forgotten quite a bit. This might have some impact on how I experienced this book, though I felt like I understood most of it. The story takes place in modern-day London and follows 16-year old Gwendolyn. Or at least, for some time. Soon the time-jumping starts and you are taken through a few different time periods and the clothes that go with it (if only I could have such a ballgown myself!!). A few other important characters are introduced, and the concept of the Chronograf. At first I thought this might just be another time-travelling story with some angsty teen as the main character but I really liked the way the author took the tropes and worked with them in such a way that it wasn't boring or very predictive. Of course, some things might have been more complicated to my liking but this book is aimed at a middle grade/young ya-ish audience so I fully appreciate the way the lore was built. There were a few small things that bothered me. These weren't big but did put a small damper on my enjoyment at times. (view spoiler)[The way that the Graf von Germain talks to and about women? Despicable. I know the author doesn't hold these beliefs herself and it is more common in those times, but I had to put my book down after reading it. I felt it was emphasized too much and I hated it. The men in modern times also seem to have some of this attitude left. Please stop. Another small thing is: WHY does Gwen like Gideon so much? I mean yes he is a "bad boy" and all that, and he does apologize for some of the things he does, but he also is kind of mean. This didn't really bother me though as she is sixteen and that's unfortunately just how attraction works sometimes. (hide spoiler)] All in all a read I thoroughly enjoyed with only a few minor mishaps. I'm looking forward to continuing this series and I will be doing that in German since I notice how my German is improving already.

The first pair Opal and Amber are,
Agate sings in B flat, the wolf avatar,
A duet-solutio! - with Aquamarine.
Mighty Emerald next, with the lovely Citrine.
Number Eight is digestio, her stand is Jade fine.
E major's the key of the Black Tourmaline,
Sapphire sings in F major, and bright is her sheen.
Then almost at once comes Diamond alone,
Whose sign of the lion as Leo is known.
Projectio! Time flows on, both present and past.
Ruby red is the first and is also the last.
