On paper, this book is not my cup of tea at all. However!! I was hooked for some reason, it was a lot of fun sometimes, but then it got really, really bad.

The characters were really annoying, I felt like I was reading about a cast from a wattpad story. They never behaved the way you would expect them to, and I kept asking myself, “these are adults?”. Quinn especially pissed me off, her logic almost never made sense to me whatsoever. The romance was so annoying, the whole “i hate you but i want you” thing got old so quick, mostly because the author made the characters literally say that, all. the. time. It was even more stupid because their reason for “hating” each other was kind of flimsy, the whole thing felt super dramatic and childish, I couldn’t take it seriously at all. Sometimes the banter would be funny, but most times it just made me roll my eyes.

The writing wasn’t good, it suffers from a bad case of telling not showing. I also discovered a new pet peeve: authors using the word “curves” constantly to describe a hot woman. I don’t know, something about it makes me cringe, find a new descriptor. The smut scenes were mediocre, which was a shame because that’s why I was here in the first place. There was also little to no world building, it feels like the magic system was just whatever would be really convenient for the characters to be able to do to move the plot along. The pacing was way off, we got so much build up for things, but the actual moment would be rushed. Heist is literally in the name, but the actual heist is super quick and low stakes, everything is too damn convenient. I was enjoying myself a fair amount all things considered til that ending, hated that ending.
