Nagori Nostalgia's Season

Nagori: Nostalgia's Season is a translation of Japanese author Ryoko Sekuguchi's French-language book of creative nonfiction Nagori: La nostalgie de la saison qui vient de nous quitter (POL, 2018). The Japanese concept of nagori, as she explains, refers to the time when a season is drawing to a close. Like much of Sekiguchi's nonfiction, Nagori focuses on food, with the food here serving as a vehicle for her meditation on our relationship with time. Her eclectic topics include historical calendars, season words in haiku, methods of food preservation (which she compares to our own destiny as biological entities), and irradiated fruit trees in post-Fukushima Japan. --page iii.
