Cursebound

Ugh, Lettle is STILL the bane of my existence. I don’t know if I’ve ever DISLIKED a character SO MUCH. She’s actually one of my friends favorite characters and I’m like HOW?

I am 14% into this book so tell me why, so much of this book has been retelling the first book as if I didn’t just read it. Can we please trust the reader?

So much of the story is being told to us instead of us seeing it.

The only thing that’s actually happened to this book is that Rayan almost died and Yeeran met someone who then scared her. THAT IS IT >:(

“Oh little Lettle. You think you can kill? You think you can take a life? He’s a father you know. He has two children? Can you take a father away from his sons?”

Lettle smiled, showing all her teeth. “I’ve done it before and I can do it again.” It was true she had killed a father—her own. 

Really enjoyed but felt a little rudimentary compared to the first one. Lots of explaining and telling the reader rather than allowing us to figure things out. Great plot and twists though!

This book definitely did not fall prey to “second book syndrome”. The plot was compelling and had a purpose and the character arcs were real and raw. The only thing that I didn’t like was the passage of time - it felt way too implausible. My review was originally longer but it got deleted and I’m tired - just know I really enjoyed this installment and I can’t wait to see how she finishes the series.

I mean I liked it more than the previous book, but that might be cause I listened to it on audiobook. I liked Lettle a little more this time around. The plot and reveal was still predictable. Some of the points felt like it really didn’t give the lightless the grace they deserved. 

I think what really has me disconnected with this book is the very heavy telling and explanatory writing style. I just hate how we are told every characters emotion and why they act a certain way. I also feel like we lack a lot of descriptions outside of telling.

I didn’t feel the pacing was as egregious as the previous book but again listening on audiobook helped. The scenes were still super fast but I did appreciate the new povs
