This was a very well written novel about nuns in 17th century Italy, with all the echoes of changes that the Catholic church are about to unfold, with a novice added to the nunnery who had been chosen as the daughter to marry, with her younger sister to go into the nunnery, that is, until the man she had been promised to decided that he preferred her younger sister.

Very good look into the life of a nunnery, and the lives that upper class women who were sent to the nunneries by their family were to live.

The year is 1570, and a new novice has just been forced into the Italian convent of Santa Caterina. Ripped by her family from the man she loves, sixteen-year-old Serafina is sharp and defiant.
