Saint Athanasius (Patriarch of Alexandria)

On the Incarnation

Good read for anyone wanting to introduce themselves to the writings of the saints. Athanasius explores many questions about why Christ came the way He did, and died the way He did and if you’re wanting to know more about the theological idea of fittingness I would 100% recommend.

He also gives some good insight into refuting those who deny Christ, although I think he does it best with his scriptural refutations of the Jews.

Excellent and encouraging work. Amazing section on the ad extra. Great illustrations (though might confuse someone unlearned about modalism), and entertaining apologetic. Like many saints long ago, Athinasius’ fascination of higher things is an inspiration.

The Alexandrian Bishop's emphases on the corruptibility of humanity and the incorruptibility of the Word; participation in the Word; and death as the ultimate enemy were deeply refreshing. C. S Lewis called this a masterpiece, and I don't think that's an overstatement. Few books have been as influential!
