The book was strange. It felt more like a nightmare than just a fever dream since it showed a young man chatting to a dying woman. Nevertheless, I found it to be an intriguing read.

My mind was all over the place after I completed this book. I felt lingering confusion as if I were trying to make sense of every detail in a broken and blurry photograph. The concept of soul transmigration, which was definitely fascinating to me, stood out the most for me.

It was unsettling, not because it was bloody, but because some parts of the book made you want to run away and hide.

This is a weird review, I know.

A stunning, dizzying, chilling story that gets under your skin in a big way. You can finish this in less than two hours, and you probably have no excuse not to. The structure/conceit feels like something Roberto Bolano would come up with, but it's executed much more effectively than any of the Bolano I've read. Creepy in the best way.

Okurken insanın aklına Das Unheimliche geliyor tabii. Burada kurulan tekinsiz atmosferin etkisindeki başarı yazarın iki karakterin diyalogları haricinde herhangi bir tasvire girmemesi. Bir anda başlayıp insanı kıskıvrak yakalanmış hissi veren bir tiyatro oyununu andıran biçem.

ve örneğini pek görmediğim ilginç bir zaman kayması da yaşatıyor yazar. Karakterlerden birinin (Carla) şimdiki zamanı, diğer karakterin geçmişte başına gelenlerle birleştirilip o karakterin (Amanda) gelecek zamanına yayılıyor.

ve bunu akıp giden diyalogla gayet anlaşılır halde başarıyor. (Schweblin iyi bir Cortazar okuru olabilir doğal olarak.) Ebeveyn okura ayrıca ürkütücü gelecektir.

Schweblin temel kayıp korkusunun yanında ufaktan bir ekolojik felaket uyarısıyla başlayıp gayet "trippy" halüsinatif bir metin kotarmış. Çok çok başarılı.

I would love to hear the publisher's reasoning for changing the title for the English translation; Rescue Distance is perfectly serviceable as far as I'm concerned, and frames the content/themes more accurately.

This, I do believe, should be read in Spanish. Or at least through a different translation. Schweblin’s sick (feverish) prose comes through and the book is plenty surreal, but it falls flat on paper. Formatting is also not sexy at all and is in fact ugly. Perhaps that was on purpose but I think that was a mistake. If you’re a Spanish reader please read this and tell me if you like it.

Um...ok what the hell just happened. This is such a cool book, reading it reallt feels like sleepwalking through a damn haze. Everything is so vague and confusing and unbearable and ... and beautiful. Not sure if that's the right word, though. Got me thinking a lot, like it sure has outdone itself.

Talk about suspense. This is a pretty short book, but that means every detail in it serves a purpose. Particularly haunting was the dream scene that took place early on in the book, as well as the ominous statements by David such as "it's too late" or "it's not water, is it?"

Learning, afterwards, that the poisoning comes from harmful pesticides makes this spooky tale seem more realistic - not some ghost tale but something that could very well be happening somewhere in the world. I'm still left with questions, as the book never outlines exactly what "the important thing" is nor provides a satisfying resolution, but it was a great read nonetheless.

bu nasıl bir metin, bu nasıl bir anlatım tarzı. ruhumu, içimi, nefesimi adeta mutfak bezi gibi sıktı sayın schweblin. kitaba başladığım andan bitirdiğim ana kadar, kitapla ilgilenmediğim her an, bir yandan kitabı okumaktan başka bir şey düşünemedim, bir yandansa "okumasam da kendi kendine bitse, biri bana devamını iki dakikada anlatsa da kurtulsam" diye gerildim. okuduğum tüm kitaplar içinde beni açık ara farkla en çok gereni buydu. sanki biri göğüs kafesime parmaklarını geçirmiş de beni itip çekiyor gibi kendi kontrolümün dışında bir hayal halinde okudum tamamını. bir de bunu 100 sayfada yapmış olması -hoş, bu teknikle, bu tarzla şöyle kallavi bir 400 sayfa olsa muhtemelen bitiremeden ölenler olurdu. 

velhasıl kitabın kendisi, kurgusu, metaforları, ufak tefek detayları vesaire her şeyi zaten çok iyi. ama o gerim gerim germesi yok mu... başka bir seviyeye taşıyor. bu sebepten kitabı "favorilerim" kategorisine seve seve koyarım, ama "bir daha okumak istediklerim" rafına? hiç sanmıyorum. ^^

Tekinsizlik – ama ne tekinsizlik. 100 sayfanın 100’ünü de tüylerim diken diken okudum, ne kadar güçlü bir metinmiş bu ya. Gündüz ve etrafımda insanlar varken değil gece tek başıma okusam muhtemelen devam edemezdim, öyle içine çekti, öyle dehşetli. David, Nina, Amanda ve Carla gözlerimde canlandı; vücutlarındaki yorgunluğu, gözlerindeki boşluğu hissettim. Yazarın paranormal gibi gözüken acayiplikleri ekolojik bir krize işaret etmek için kullanmış olması da çok ilginçti. Bu arada kitabı bana öneren arkadaşımla kitap bitince yaptığımız sohbetten öğrendim ki, Samanta Schweblin’in eğitimi sinema üzerineymiş, “bir metin nasıl bu kadar sinematografik olabilir, nasıl içine bunca çekebilir” sorumun cevabını da almış oldum böylece. Ezcümle bunu okuyunuz mutlaka. Kendisi basbayağı bir deneyim.

Fiebertraum trifft es wirklich sehr gut. 
Ein Dialog, der ohne Pause und Absätze über 150 Seiten andauert und man auch als Leser vergeblich einen Moment zum Innehalten sucht. 
Sehr interessanter Ansatz, auch wenn am Ende einige Fragen ungeklärt bleiben.
