Among the Burning Flowers

I love the series. Except this ending felt very abrupt. I wouldn’t recommend to read as an entry into the roots of chaos, but as an extension of the world that has been built through the other two books.

Incredibly underwhelmed with this. In my opinion, there was wayyyy too much world building and redundancy for a novella. There’s only a couple of action scenes, and even those are boring. 

This book did make me love Aubrecht even more, so I’ll give it that. Great prose as usual, and the women relationships are beautiful. But overall, I was bored with this.

As a first book in the Roots of Chaos series, I think it would be an interesting but less fulfilling entry point. As a third book, its just pure joy. Lots of tidbits and extra information is given during the story, and the shortened length takes nothing away from how much is conveyed. Samantha Shannon with another masterpiece!
