Renihan is very precise and attentive to details in a good many matters throughout the book: his definitions and lines of reasoning are very clear. I learned quite a bit (in particular, I hadn't thought before about how the Davidic covenant supplies a federal head for the Mosaic covenant, which had previously lacked one).

However, I don't think he landed on his feet with some other major points, especially those most distinctive to Particular Baptists: most notably, he rolls together Abraham and Moses in ways that I believe the Scriptures distinguish them, and his treatment of the apostasy passages in the New Testament seemed not to appreciate their force in indicting apostates for breaking the New Covenant. I also think he missed the significance of the Noahic covenant for the priest-kingship of Christ.

Even when I disagreed with Renihan, though, I thought this book was well-written and easy to follow. Renihan is absolutely right, though, that our study of covenant theology should lead us always to humility and stir up heartfelt praise for the Lord Jesus.
