I had said in my review of the second volume that I was done reading The Tarot Cafe by Sang-Sun Park. Rhiona suggested I should keep going and the artwork style (my biggest complaint about the series) would be explained. My husband shortly there after checked out the first four volumes. I decided to read number three to see if I liked it any better than two.

Volume Three is like volumes one and two: a mixture of episodic stories based around the fortunes the main character tells and some on going plot points introduced in the first volume and carried on through the second and now third volumes.

There's a lot of lost love, broken taboos, revenge and rampantly high emotions. There's also still the artwork where everyone looks like everyone else. I always feel like I should take notes to keep track of who's who because I can't tell visually and the plot's just not keeping my attention.

I swear: I'm done. I know I'm only at the halfway point but I don't care. The series and I don't get along.

I've mentioned before the diverse selection of graphic novels and manga my local library has. The latest volume I picked up is the start of a seven part manhwa (Korean manga) series, Tarot Cafe by Sang-Sun Park.

Pamela reads fortunes for a living. After hours she takes special clients who need to harness her clairvoyant powers. After a brief introduction the rest of the book is divided into four episodes: one per tarot reading. They are: A Wish-Fulfilling Cat, Eternal Beauty, A Fairy and the first part of A Heartless Princess, an Alchemist, and a Jester.

Of the four my favorite is the first. The story of the cat's unnatural love for his human mistress is heart breaking. Eternal Beauty is the old emo vampire who falls in love but makes enemies in the process. That sort of story has been done (and is still being done) to death. A Fairy is the story of a fair folk cursed into the body of a little girl and forever pining after her fiancé. Time is cruel to her. The final story acts as a cliff hanger to the second volume; it's the creepy tale of an alchemist who desperately wants a princess to love him. His gifts though reveal an ugly side to his beloved.

Sang-Sun Park's artwork is beautiful but ambiguous. One reviewer complained that all her characters look like girls. I wouldn't go that far but her magical characters do tend to be overly beautiful beyond even what seems typical in the manga equivalents.

Tarot Cafe Volume 1 was one of the quickest manga volumes I've read. I plan to see if my library has any more books from the series.

Loved it, loved it. Just like the first time, 'cause it was a reread for me. 
The ending wan't clear, but I like to think that (view spoiler)[Pamela and Belus stayed together. That she forgave him and they lived together. Maybe not as lovers (though I would prefer that), but as friends... As far as their friendship can go. (hide spoiler)]

This one was quite intense. A lot of action, a lot of answering the questions.

3.75 Liked this one a bit less, we have quite a lot of questions now at ths point. But I still enjoy it very much.

A bit weaker than the prevous one, but still pretty good. And this series makes me so nostalgic.

Things are getting more interesting! I love the characters, even the ones that show up in one chapter. And there are so many gay couple. Not all of the couples, but at least half. Soo good.
