Trouble Walks In is the Second book in the McGuire Brothers series that is the newest series by Humphreys. I adored the first book “Brave The Heat” so I was pretty excited when I saw this book in the Romance Package. One of the things that I loved about this series so far is the family of brothers here in the series, they are so fun and close knit. Trouble Walks In features a hero who is a K-9 Police Officer and a heroine who is a Real Estate Agent. Trouble Walks In, is a story that has multiple settings and tropes which is fun. Its not a blow your mind read, but its a book that is endearing and so charming. It begins with being taken to New York City, where Ronan and Maddy are friends. There has been some high sexual tension between them, but Ronan knows about Maddy’s past and even though there is a part of him that has always loved Maddy, he knows she is still grieving her late boyfriend of ten years. Maddy is trying to live her life again, although she is shielding herself from the past by keeping busy at work and not letting herself be distracted. While out on a run with Ronan, they stumble across a woman who has been murdered and the woman has a connection to Maddy. When a series of murders start to occur, Ronan is concerned because they tend to connect to Maddy’s work. But Maddy isn’t that concerned about it, sparks fly though when they go home for the Christmas Holiday and discover that there is more to their relationship than mere friendship. I found Trouble Walks In to be a very interesting read, I will admit I didn’t find it quite as engaging as I did book one but that could have been the narrator more than anything else. I did love this pairing in some ways. I love it when the hero is a police officer, and we see how comitted he is to his career and his K-9 canine who is simply adorable and I am NOT a dog person but I loved this side character and he just wins your heart. I found the sub plot of the serial murders to be quite interesting, and what I liked about it was that it doesn’t overwhelm the romance at all, it tends to flow pretty smoothly within the story. And this is what I love about this author, is how capable she is of writing a solid romance and including a supportive plot that doesn’t overcome the other elements involved. The romance that is developed in this book is exactly what I was looking for. Its a sweet one, which implements friends to lovers/unrequited love/second chance tropes. I realy enjoyed the way these tropes were placed in the story and yes I love a hero that goes after his girl so enduringly and never gives up on his love for her. The hero is such a good man though, he is great with his family and he loves helping people. The heroine loves her career and finding the perfect home for her clients, she is driven and kindhearted but she is hiding from herself and I felt blinded by her grief and the hero helps her face up to what she has been doing to herself and aids her in getting out of her comfort zone and really live life instead of just going through the motions. Overall I found Trouble Walks In, which is a romance that is a charming second chance which turned out to be a tale about self growth, endearingly romantic and give you a few surprises along the way.
