Catherine is moving to Baltimore to start her career when her mother is diagnosed with a devastating illness. Catherine throws the job aside to care for her mom. But as she thinks about growing up, she begins to realize that many things about her mom, Ruth, don't make sense.

This story is told in alternating chapters from Catherine's perspective and then Ruth's. It's about trauma, secrets, mother-and-daughter relationships, and a decades-old crime. It was dark and twisty and kept me turning pages.
