3 2.75/5 When I heard about Sarina Bowen new mm hockey romance between a hockey player and a single-dad who works as an athletic trainer on the same hockey team, I knew I had to read it. The story, if I had to be honest made me kinda anxious, because the plot mainly focuses on Hudson dragging his announcement about him being bisexual. I was trying to understand his character and his reason behind it, but it still made me mad. It was his decision, and he had the right to come out when he was ready, but he hurt Gavin so much by postponing it and in the end he suddenly broke up with him. The worst things is that he wasn’t even planning to get him back. Gavin was still messaging him and thinking about them and Hudson did nothing about it. "And there’s a new message. Even though I’ve made it a point not to reach out to him, I’m not a strong enough man to resist this." "Unless the universe hates both of us the same amount, you’ll meet another great guy and get on with your life.” How can you say those things? "My last view of Brooklyn was the devastation he wasn’t afraid to wear on his face." Yeah I was basically crying here. Only when he went back to New York for the game he told his teammates about his sexuality, it was around 95% in the book. Then he sent Gavin flowers and beer and told him to come to his hotel, where Gavin of course forgave him. The book was supposed to have "world class groveling", but that was supposed to be it?? Beer and flowers are the word class groveling??? Hell no. The groveling was disappointing, so don’t expect anything more. After everything Gavin had to go through in their relationship and how he had to pretend they didn't have feelings for each other around people, it was damn sad. Their relationship was great around 50-60% when Hudson was trying for Gavin and his daughter, which sadly was still in hiding from other people. The other main character, Gavin was adorable though. I liked him, he was such a sweetheart who believed in Hudson and their relationship to the end. I'll never understand why he forgave Hudson so quickly, this man should beg him on his knees for him. It's a bit sad that the author did not develop the story of his parents, who did not accept his sexuality and ex-husband. I felt like the book focused more on Hudson. "I don’t remember the moment he went from being my obsession to becoming my dream." "I was never really living until I had you. And I’ve never said that to anyone. Ever." I rated it almost three starts, so there has to be something good right? I finished it in one day so that's the main reason; another one is that I just wanted to know when Hudson would announce people about his sexuality. The chemistry between the main characters was also great, and the spicy scenes did not disappoint me. I know the next book has already been announced, it will be about Tommaso DiCosta and some interior designer, but I honestly thought and hoped it would be about the new coach. "So I google Colorado’s coach. “It’s Clay Powers. He’s only thirty-eight years old—the youngest head coach in the league.” “He’s cute,” she says. “I like his face.” It is a nice face, I guess. And he wears the heck out of a suit. Just for kicks, I google hottest NHL coach and his photo comes up immediately. Figures." He sounds hot, like really hot. Plus, he was really supporting for Hudson when he heard what he went through with his dad. Unfortunately, the next book won’t be about him. I guess I'll have to wait until 2024. I hope the second book will make a better impression one me. Fingers crossed. Hockey Guys series 1. The New Guy (Hockey Guys, #1) 2.75 stars 2. I’m Your Guy (Hockey Guys, #2) 3 stars
