If I'd been able, I would've wanted to see you working there just a little bit longer. After all, it's when you're in the shop that you shine the brightest. Of course, it was just a selfish wish on my part. But if that's the case, I hope that after this you and the Morisaki Bookshop can move forward together.

As the moment gets closer, I just want to be with her for as long as I can. I keep selfishly wishing for her not to die yet. She's already resigned herself to it. In the end, I'm the one who can't accept it. I'm just being greedy.

Since I couldn't talk to anyone about this, I couldn't find a way out of my problems, and little by little the sadness inside me grew until it felt like a massive balloon pressing down on me every night when I got into bed.

Reading had started to affect me in ways I hadn't expected. I had been touched by the kinds of love I read about in books, and that had strengthened my belief that I needed to take my own affections more seriously.

just like the first book, this sequel also left me in tears. it helped me understand grief better, the art of being hopeful even after experiencing deep sorrow from losing someone we loved so much. but after that, what we have to do is live life to the fullest. absolutely 5/5 stars book! ⭐️

these two books really warmed my heart... some people say this was an unnecessary sequel but for me it made me love the characters so much deeper. i love that, on surface level, the series's premise focuses on the effect of books on people, but when you read it, you realize it's about the people who leave the greatest impact on one another. they're living, walking books with so many beautiful stories to tell. even after their death, their soul lives on in the words and marks they have imparted on others' hearts.

 in one day, and i just had to tell you how much i enjoyed them. the quiet magic of that little secondhand bookshop in jimbocho, the smell of old pages, and the gentle kindness that takako found there felt like a warm embrace. the passages filled with wise, comforting words from takako’s uncle and aunt really spoke to me — their simple yet profound advice about books, loneliness, and finding one’s place in the world lingered with me long after i closed the covers. i loved how the story showed that even an old, slightly dusty bookshop could be a place of refuge and unexpected connections. i was deeply moved — and honestly so sad — when momoko died; her presence brought such a lightness and warmth to takako’s days, and her loss made the little world of morisaki feel all the more real and fragile. these books reminded me how stories, old books, and kind people can help us heal in ways we don’t always expect.

A beautiful reflection on love and grief. It’s definitely one for book lovers, and a nice quiet book in between other novels.

better than the first book. the characters captured my heart, broke it, and tore it into pieces, only to build it up and make me whole again like nothing happened.

Really enjoyed this book from start to finish in comparison to the first one. There’s more depth to the characters and just overall in the story itself. Really beautifully written to depict loss, heartbreak and grief while still inserting the love for books in the situations.

A bittersweet slice-of-life story. It’s a simple read but the last 2 chapters are sorrowful. Had me thinking a lot about life, loss, grief and how we as humans are never ready to feel those until it comes hitting one day unexpectedly.
