first and foremost:

fuck the british empire, fuck margaret thatcher, fuck tony blair, fuck churchill, fuck the royal family, fuck the colonizers everywhere,e and special fuck you to however decides to side with the oppressor over their own people.

i’m conflicted with this book, it was recommended to me as a “neutral” ground to learn more in depth about the troubles in ireland, even tho we have to recognize the fuck ups and incompetence of the IRA in many instances, but as so called “neutral” author he minimizes or simply doesn’t mention what the british army and government did (and has been doing since the 17th century) the disappearances, the murders they committed as well as the ones they let happen or orchestrated, the human rights abuses and tortures, he even talks about margaret thatcher character with a kind of admiration. while also minimizing the already BRIEF mentions of their actions and making them seem justified or reasonable responses

and after finding out that the author based most of the book on the boston tapes, it ratified my feelings of dislike and overall disappointment

Absolutely horrifyingly sad. He’s a phenomenal storyteller and all these people had crazy stories to tell.
