The book verges on encyclopaedic at times and loses its grander narrative as a result of this, but each chapter is stuffed with great anecdotes that can keep you entertained never the less.

I feel like lacked some discussion of more contemporary food trends: food trucks and expensive fast food being two good examples, but to criticise it for this would probably be nitpicking, overall it’s a really enjoyable read.

I really enjoyed this, but its a long and dense read so took me a while! I really liked how literature was woven through the chapters to explain some food fads and timings, it made me want to go and reread pride and prejudice 100%
