While I definitely preferred the first book, I enjoyed this one quite a bit as well. The charm of bucking traditional European nobility tropes is always delightful, and I feel Patricia C. Wrede would get along swimmingly with Terry Pratchett. As I believe I stated previously, this was a book series I may or may not have finished in late elementary or middle school, and I'm now 31 years old. It's been a while, so most of the details had been lost to time for me. I fully had forgotten the plot and the new characters, and certainly the ending though it was easy to see how it was likely to end based on the trajectory of the main two characters.

All in all, a delightful book. Fully recommended.
