Once again, Kristen Heitzmann creates a gripping and compelling story. While I do not love this series as much as I love the one that precedes it (Rose Legacy) I still really like this one. 
I do hate the fact that Quillian suffers such an unpeaceful death (not part of the narration but alluded to). 
I also could never quite get a handle on both Lance and Rese's characters. They seemed consistent with whatever Heitzmann was aiming for, I'm just not sure what that was. 
That being said, Heitzmann once again creates beautifully flawed characters that struggle in real ways but still come out alright in the end.

**Update**
I thought even right after I finished the book that I would keep this book in my collection but as I picked up the second book in the series, I realized just how poorly I had connected with the characters, how much I love the characters of the original. The sequel series simply does not and cannot hold a candle to the original. 
This book did not capture my attention in a way that would secure a place on my shelves so it, and the other two books in the series, do not survive round two of the "purge" from my personal collection.
