I received Melt from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The subject matter is a bit gritty with the issues of abuse, alcoholism, drug use etc. Joey is a teenager with a bad home life and a bad reputation. His father is brutal and beats him. He is just broken. Dorothy is new to town and a sweet likable girl. She comes from a great family but her parents seem uninterested. The two are an interesting couple and it would be hard not to be hopeful for them. There is an instant connection between reader and characters and I was immediately hooked on both characters. 

The writing style in Joey’s POV is a poetry style and it seems that some people don’t enjoy this writing style. It is the first time that I have read something written in a poetry style but I didn’t mind at all. If you can let go of familiar structure and immerse yourself into a story it isn’t distracting. I found it to be even more gripping and indicative of Joey’s character because of the style. There is power in Castrovilla’s writing. The characters evoke emotions and I cared about the characters.
