i was torn a lot on how to rate this one and i'm still stuck on 3.5 or 4 stars out of 5.

whilst i'll go on to explain what i liked, what i struggled with the most whilst reading this was picturing some characters and various parts of the world in my head as the descriptions were often insufficient.

however, my biggest loves of this book was the strong LGBTQ+ representation and that there wasn't 1 main character/couple, but 3 main sisters, each with very interesting magical powers.

Calida is the oldest and first heir to the throne. unfortunately due to her duties, she is forced to mate a fae male as her heart breaks that she can't be with her true love, her female servant.

Zari is the middle-child and second heir to the throne and the 'back-up princess.' because of this she spends a lot of time drinking, sleeping around and using her time however she pleases before she may eventually be stuck with royal duties.

Arianna is the youngest and the outcast in the family. she isn't trained on princessly duties or decorum, instead she works through the ranks to become Sentinel prepped to one day lead the king and queen's armies.

their personalities are very similar, as sisters can tend to be, but there are distinct differences which set them apart and i loved that all 3 of them find themselves on different paths throughout the book. each story as important as the others.

there are so many unanswered questions from this and i am counting down to 15th March for book 2!
