Once again, Creech penned an absolutely beautiful book. As a good children's book should, some of the issues are exaggerated/fictionalized to smooth some of the rough edges without losing poignancy and purpose. The narrative is cute and childlike yet gets right to the heart of the issue. The last minute uncertainty at the end of the novel (I will leave the details out) I found unnecessary to prove Creech's point. That made the difference between a five star and four star rating for me.

I had very different expectations for this book, but that certainly didn't make it any less fun to read. For example, I didn't know at first that this was a youth book. The text on the back just appealed to me. Once I started reading, the story went a lot faster than expected. It runs smoothly, often with short chapters, and has simple yet beautiful language.

I liked the story very much. The Dallas and Florida twins have become very suspicious of adults because of their experiences in their young lives. And Tiller and Sairy have to get used to having children in their lives again and around the house. The book tells a sweet story about a twin and a couple who find in each other the family that they had unconsciously missed.

Only the end frustrated me a little, as it leaves certain questions open. In some stories, I appreciate that the writer leaves it open to the reader's interpretation. And the story gives enough hints to fill it in yourself. But given which questions are involved and because you sympathize with the twins so much, I would have liked it if there were a number of pages dedicated to bring the story really to a close. Hopefully you know what I mean when you read it. And I definitely recommend it. If only because it reads easily and leaves you with a nice, heartwarming feeling.
