The scarlet veil

Six months have passed since Célie took her sacred vows and joined the ranks of the Chasseurs as their first huntswoman. With her fiancé, Jean Luc, as captain, she is determined to find her foothold in her new role and help protect Belterra. But whispers from her past still haunt her, and a new evil is rising—one that Célie herself must vanquish, unless she falls prey to the darkness.

4.5 STARS:

I. Loved. This. Book!

Everything about this book was fantastic! The main character was clever, a badass, yet kind, and she never lost sight of herself. The MMC was the epitome of morally grey and yet, once he let his walls down, he could be so sweet and caring. The mystery had constant twists and turns, and I really enjoyed the character development. There are so many things that this book did right!

The one thing that is making me take off half a star was who the killer turned out to be. Still, with the motivations then revealed, I felt like the author managed to save it at the end, so only half a star is being deducted.

Also, WHAT WAS THAT CLIFF HANGER?! Be warned that it ends in a place that will make you want the next book immediately.

So, yeah, overall if you are looking for a great gothic romance with a twisty plot, I would recommend this book!

"Do you have a death wish, mademoiselle? Or is it the dead themselves who call to you? Because”—he presses it hard against my bottom lip—“I've been imagining how you taste since I met you. Les Éternels stalk the streets by moonlight, preying on the weak and seducing the immoral."

This book was honestly an amazing read. The characters were beautiful and so is the storyline. I waited months to read this book and it was worth it.
