Tom Lichtenheld's illustrations drew me to Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker. The book is a rhyming story about the process of going to bed, similar in spirit to The Going to Bed Book by Sandra Boynton or Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown (and its many parodies).

Here, though, the creatures going to bed are construction equipment. It would be a good book to read in conjunction with Job Site by Nathan Clement and Hard Hat Area by Susan L. Roth.

As a stand-alone story about bedtime, it's lacking something. The rhymes are soothing and the illustrations are adorable but seeing construction equipment put themselves to bed is also odd. My daughter even commented on how strange it was that the trucks were the ones going to bed, rather than the people driving them. The book, perhaps, would work better as a bedtime story for younger children (ages 2-3), and less as a read alone book for older children.

It's time to go to sleep damn it. Every single one of those machines out there on that construction site are settling down and closing their eyes and going to sleep and hopefully any silly baby who thinks bedtime is just a suggestion will fall under the sleepy time spell and conk out. That's the plan anyway.

Great concept for a children's book. Reads fairly well as an e-book compared to the physical book. A tad on the long side, but entertaining. It wasn't necessary that all of the construction machinery be referred to with masculine pronouns.

Bought this book after reading it on an online library (Scrib'd) as I liked how it introduces different construction vehicles, loved the way it "read"/sounded, and thought it would be a good book to wind down and encourage one to sleep. 

This is not the shortest of stories (in the world of kids books) so there is a high chance one may fall asleep reading it for the eleventeenth time after a long day at work. 

I bought the board book version, which is kinda small. A paperback or hardcover version might have a nicer feel to it.
