Truthfully, this is perhaps a 2.5 star book. Producing a graphic adaptation of The Lottery is a hard task. It's a quiet story without a lot of visuals. Hyman stars off well, adding some silent background scenes to the story. I particularly enjoyed the following of Tess throughout the morning (except for the unnecessary disembodied naked torso shot. That was unnecessary and annoying). However, when he gets to the meat of the narrative, the adaptation falters. The visuals don't feel tense enough, and there's not enough visual difference during the climax. 

Also, the lettering font was a terrible choice, too modern for the art and setting of the story. It kept drawing me out of the narrative.

Some generally gorgeous artwork. Faces are all a little lumpy and look incredibly alike but for this story that works in its favour. Would have benefited from a better letterer but overall a good graphic adaptation.
