This is a great story. I actually preferred this to Silence (which I loved) because it came at some of the same issues from a different perspective - a more universal catholic perspective than a Catholic perspective. I also loved the historical fiction aspect of it. It’s great how a book written decades ago and set 400 yrs ago can seem so relevant today. I’ll remember a passage from p. 236 “That’s how Government works. I realize that now. Something that was good four years ago has to be judged evil if it has no use today. That is the noble way of Government.”
